Meet Dr. Janse
Dr. Scott Janse has been a practicing endodontist since 1998 and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, which means he is one of fewer than 20 percent of board-certified endodontists. To achieve this distinction, an endodontist submits their work for critical review by a panel of their peers. The panel examines their case history and treatment choices. The endodontist must also pass oral and written exams.
As a Diplomate of the ABE, Dr. Janse mentors endodontists seeking board certification. He is also a clinical associate professor in the Department of Endodontics at the School of Dentistry at UT Health San Antonio, where he teaches future endodontists. Additionally, Dr. Janse is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Journal of Endodontics. In this role, he reviews manuscripts submitted to the JOE, a publication of the American Association of Endodontics.
Dr. Janse became a dentist because he enjoys problem-solving, using cutting-edge technology, and doing detail-oriented work. He chose to specialize in endodontics because it gave him the opportunity to get to know his patients, diagnose their dental problems, and relieve their pain. He wants to improve not just his patients’ oral health but their overall health as well.
Dr Janse says, “Bringing relief to those in pain is truly a gift. Hearing the nervous patient say, ‘That was no big deal’ is rewarding. Helping patients save their natural teeth and maintain function is fulfilling.”
